What are the document required for import?

You must get permission from the General Authority for Antiquities before exporting or removing antiques from Yemen. Illegal movement or sale of Yemeni antiques is a serious offence under local law which can carry a custodial sentence.

  • Commercial Invoice
  • Corresponding freight document, e.g. Air Waybill or Bill of Lading
  • Certificate of Non-Preferential Origin
  • Packing List
  • Delivery Order, if sea or air freight
  • Insurance Certificate, if required
  • Permits and certificates (if the goods are subject to regulatory control)
  • Proof of payment of duties
  • Translations of the above-mentioned documents, if required (documents are acceptable only in Arabic and English).

Prohibited items to import/export in Yemen

  • Narcotics
  • Pornography
  • Counterfeit items
  • Cultural artefacts and other objects of cultural importance
  • Henna
  • Palm tree and any products thereof
  • Explosive material

What can be import free on Yemen?

  • 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos or 500g of tobacco. There are no information on age restrictions
  • 1L of spirits (over 25% volume of alcohol) or 2L of lighter alcohol beverages (up to 25% volume of alcohol)
  • Non-commercial amount of gifts and other unused items for personal use of value up to YER 100,000.

  1. Live animals – health certificate required. Contact nearest embassy to obtain permission.
  2. Endangered species and any products or parts thereof as outlined by CITES maybe be brought in only with CITES permission.
  3. Medication
  4. Hunting weapons permissible only with authorisation obtainable from Ministry of Interior.
