Extortion at the border between Turkey and Bulgaria. Had to pay 500EUR fine for taking our own car in and out of the country for an 11 day vacation. Held at ransom at the border until we paid in cash. Did not accept credit card. Did not explain the law we had apparently violated and what the fine was for. We are a family of British citizens traveling on holiday in our foreign registered company car. We are the owners of the car and hence the vehicle. This is a robbery.
we had the same problem at ipsala for taking our own car. They held my driving licence and IDP until we paid them €200. We have sent a letter of complaint to Turkish president and to British embassy in Ankara.
